Contradicting Death

Rachel Republican reporting in…

Over the weekend my brother and sister-in-law had an involuntary abortion. Baby Daniel was aborted by biological forces leaving behind a mournful family. This traumatizing event has brought about the question, how could anyone voluntarily abort their child?

A woman has rights. One of these rights, currently, is abortion. Because she made a bad decision, she has the right to “terminate” a baby. According to the Idaho Republican Platform, “We reaffirm our support for the sanctity of life and the rights of the unborn child.” An unborn child has rights. At five weeks an unborn fetus has a heart beat detectable in an ultrasound. Abortion is so much more than a simple form of birth control; it is the destruction of human life. I stumbled upon a website where blogger discussed and reported about the contradiction between the death penalty and abortion. Because much of this is in direct opposition to what I stand for, I am including it for your personal enlightenment.

The problem with much of this is that people assume the death row inmate is innocent. “Innocent until proven guilty”. Proven guilty! If there is solid proof, then the jury has made it a known fact that the person chose to commit a horrendous crime. What crime has an unborn infant committed? Why does an unborn baby not get the opportunity to make their own choices and have the life they were created to have?

Death penalty vs abortion. These are simply two topics completely unrelated. It is said that, because of retrial rights and the years an inmate spends prolonging their death on death row, it is actually more cost efficient to sentence a person to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Abolish the death penalty or keep it; regardless abortion is still unacceptable.

  1. I adamantly agree with your view on abortion. It is wrong, I do not even believe that the catch line of “Pro-life”ers that cases where the mother is in danger are acceptable. A good friend of our family was told by her Doctor when she was pregnant that the baby was not going to live, and that she was in danger if she did not terminate the pregnancy. He told her that even if she successfully carried the child to term that it would most likely be brain dead. She chose life. The baby was healthy and is now twenty years old and extremely intelligent. He went to a classical school where he did Calculus in 10th grade, and learned Latin and Greek. Far from brain dead! And she was healthy as ever when it was all over. We don’t know what will come of a life, who are we to end it.

  2. I agree with you completely. Abortion is so wrong. I feel that if people are not smart and don't use the proper precautions to prevent pregnancy, then they need to deal with the consequences for their actions. There should not be an easy way out, in life there are no easy ways out, so why should this situation be any different? The excuse given that abortion is good because of women who are in danger during their pregnancy and that it could kill them is not good enough reasoning for me. Our hospitals are much more advanced now than they have been in a very long time. I'm sure doctors can find a way to fix whatever the problem may be. If doctors can't even find a way to do that, how can they even hope to find a cure for cancer? Abortion is like the death penalty, except these unborn children have committed no crime worthy of it.

  3. I agree with you 100%. Abortion is wrong. How any woman could kill her unborn child just blows my mind. When you do something wrong you have to take responsibility for it. There shouldn’t be an easy way out for those who are stupid and irresponsible.

Do you want to make it illegal for women to get an abortion?

While I don’t agree with abortion, I think that making it illegal will not help at all. I feel that it would make things worse. Women would still find a way to do it and that will increase the risk of death for the baby and the mother.

I agree that the baby does have rights but as of right now it is not a baby until it is born. How do you make something illegal when currently people have many different opinions on when it is a baby? How can you make all women agree that a baby has rights if they don’t believe it is a baby until it’s born?

  4. ZeroPoint- I’m so glad your friend did not take what the doctors said about their unborn baby and make a drastic decision about her life. What a life altering mistake that could’ve been. I’m sure they are so very thankful they chose life!
This is a perfect example of a time when the “harm to the mother” excuse is no longer an excuse. Doctors make mistake judgments all the time and it’s not fair to take a PERSON’S life because of it. Maybe if people can’t be responsible the government should make it mandatory that every woman has to get the five year birth control shot when she starts her period and then has to take a parenting class and show responsibility before she is allowed to get pregnant. (just kidding) Obviously this wouldn’t work because it would infringe upon our freedoms. The freedom we too easily take for granted.

  5. Yes, I believe abortion should be illegal. Go hold an aborted baby at 16 weeks and tell me they aren’t really a baby. If you don’t claim it as a child from conception, you don’t deserve the child in the first place. There are so many other options out there that need to be giving more emphasis. If a woman can’t afford to take care of the baby she is carrying, adoption is a wonderful option. Or, how about not getting pregnant in the first place. I know, personally, that there are ways to get birth control pills for free as a teenager without parental consent. If a woman is responsible enough to have sex, she needs to be responsible enough to prevent any unwanted pregnancies. I do not believe abortion should be an option at all. We need make sure young people know how to be responsible and what the consequences are if they are not. Awareness like this can save so many lives. There’s just no need for the option of abortion in this day in age.

  6. I totally agree with you that abortion should be illegal. And I agree that a baby is a baby at the second of conception. But the problem with others is that they don't agree. So taking away that right to what they want to believe would be hard.

I agree that abortions should not be an option and that if a woman cannot take care of the baby then adoption should be automatic.

This topic is very controversial but it needs to be dealt with.
